faux-reos (foreos)

I MADE OREOS!

I don't know, there's a strange sense of triumph when you reproduce something so well-known and so well-loved by people of all societies.
A LONG, LONG and tedious process. Killed my entire afternoon; took me about three and a half hours? 
A run to the grocery store would have been the way to go...

I made them using whole wheat flour. Healthy buzz? Not really. My whole wheat flour expires in 4 days.

Pretty? :)
Ahh. Too bad they're really gross. Burnt my first batch and the course flour messed up the texture. Plus, I didn't have Dutch processed cocoa; I used the regular one, so the chocolate taste isn't AS dark and intense. The filling's pretty authentic to me though, and sandwiching the wafers were unbelievably fun.

What's next? :) Digestives?
