catch up

Dude, ketchup originated from China. They brought a concoction made out of fish brine and salt, called it 'ke-tsiap,' brought it over to Malaya (which became 'kechop'), and the English people tried to copy it, but obviously, being all squeamish about the "fishy smell" (plus the lack of ingredients) replaced some ingredients with mushrooms, tomatoes and sugar, made 'ketchup.'

Ketchup? Ew. Marinara sauce all the way. :)
